Movie Verdict
Gen’nexT Movies is the production team who have earlier delivered the super hit horror thriller ‘Mantra’ starring Charmi Kaur in the lead role, later the movie became an inspiration for many such movies in future. When a movie is releasing from one such production house, we will expect something interesting in thew plot of the movie and the making style as well.
‘Butterfly’ movie has a very simple point that is dealt in a very ordinary manner without any exciting thrills in the story. Though the runtime of this movie is perfect for this genre, narration and the execution fails to create any interest while watching the movie. When a thriller movie is made, audience will definitely expect some unexpected twits and turns in the plot, which could also make them forget any flaws in the movie. But ‘Butterfly’ creates no such interest during the runtime and has no intelligent twists that could grab the attention of audience. Movie ends in a very disappointing way making it tiresome to watch.
When it comes to acting performances, Anupama Parameswaran in the role of Geetha is believable, but struggled to perform in few emotional scenes. However, she needs to be appreciated for her efforts to carry the whole movie on her shoulders with her performance. Nihal Kodhaty, who started his career as child artist played an important role in this movie and his performance is convincing. Bhumika Chawla role is limited and she did gave a good performance as always. Rao Ramesh’s character is a cakewalk for him and we have seen him in such roles many times. All other actors did their part well as required for the story.
Technically Butterfly movie looks okay. Background score composed by Arviz & Gideon Katta is apt for the scenes and creates some interest. Cinematography provided by Sameer Reddy is not up to his mark, he have earlier worked for some big movies which shows his talent as a cinematographer, but this movie visuals look more like a short film. Editing is crisp and production values are as needed for the story.
Director Ghanta Satish Babu earlier worked as an associate director for few films and this is his debut movie as full time director. His inexperience in making the scenes more interesting can be clearly observed throughout the movie. He could have taken care more about writing some strong scenes that could connect with the audience.
Overall, Butterfly is a thriller movie that only gives the thrills in very few scenes. If you have Hotstar subscription and love to watch thrillers, you can watch this movie right now on Hotstar.
